SOA & Web2.0 to reshape eBusiness
I just fell on this article from eweek.com. I as well as other SOA leading experts all agree that web 2.0 is here to enable SOA on the web. However, I will add that these technologies have drastically changed the way we do business on the internet. The big guys like amazon and ebay now use SOA to architect their backend and web 2.0 enabled interfaces to provide their services to their clients and partners. To the small guys, SOA and web 2.0 has greatly reduce the barrier to market entry.
For example travel agency can now sell partners’ flights and hotels online at very low IT cost. They simply need to build SOA composite applications that orchestrates their partners services and sell these services to the customers using a web 2.0 enable portal. This strategy also greatly reduce the time to market entry for new services. Actually the business does not care about the implementation technology. All that matters to the CEO is time to take new services to the market, the Quality of the Service (QoS), and as we all know how much ROI. So any technology that makes these posible will be quick embrased by any CEO in his or her right state of mind. This makes SOA and web 2.0 the technology for future ebusiness.
SOA and web 2.0 will re-shape ebusiness not only in the area of online retailing as describe above but also in the development of social networks. In the future, emerging businesses will just need to integrate services provided by the big guys ( google map, youtube, flickr just to mention a few) to build social networks that privide added value to the users at lost IT cost. For those who see the opportunities provided by SOA and web 2.0, the future is in their hands.
